We must understand that a PASSIVE stretch will only yield PASSIVE results. Just the same as PASSIVE strength training. You can't passively lift the barbell and hope to look like Hugh Jackman after your training session. The same holds true for mobility.

The warm up serves two purposes:

1. Initiates communication from our brain to our tissues

2. Gets you body moving the way it should move in your training session

COMMUNICATION

The filter we use to learn mechanics (afference) comes from our tissues. This essentially means your body performs a task and your brain determines if it was GOOD or BAD at achieving the end goal. If it was GOOD, your brain sends a signal to tell your body to repeat that same task in the same way (efference). If it was BAD, we down-regulate that movement and try to replace it was a better performance of the task. The healthier and more primed you can make your joints in your warm up, the more clear the feedback is coming from the joint into the brain. The more clear the feedback, the better you can control yourself in each and every position.

MOVEMENT

"A degree of freedom is an opportunity to do work." Every single joint in our body has the room to open up more usable and active space. By opening up potential of your joints, you open up your ability to use energy, dissipate energy, and express force - which is the whole purpose of strength training, isn't it?!

The World's Best Warm Up will take you through 10 Specific Drills to get your ready to lift. We begin training with opening up Ankle ROM, then work to ensure the knees are ready to squat. The hips are typically the tightest area of the body for us strength athletes, we take a couple minutes to carve out some space enabling us to get activation from our glutes, hamstrings, and quads. We follow that up by getting our spine to start segmenting allowing for better communication from our brain to our bodes. Training is finalized with a couple drills to open up shoulder ROM and activate those pesky lats.
